Voices of Texas Educators
The Charles Butt Foundation (CBF) wanted to hear directly from educators at different levels (i.e. teachers, principals, and superintendents). I, along with two other researchers that I trained to conduct focus groups, attended a conference for educators organized by a nonprofit that partners with CBF.
The research I conducted for this project focused on:
1) Educators’ job experiences: better understand the most salient challenges educators are facing in educating children.
2) Educators’ emotional experiences: explore how the challenges educators face impacts them on an individual level.
Focus Group Interviews
•We interviewed 3 groups of approximately 10 participants each. Focus groups were separated by public educator role: teachers, principals, and superintendents.
•We asked questions about how they felt when they first started their jobs and how they feel now, what particular challenges they face on a day-to-day basis, and how they feel when their schools are compared to charter and private schools.
